I believe the stamped slides had internal extractors. Besides, I think they stopped using the stamped slides on the P226 long ago. And the stamped slides use a roll pin to hold . a stamped slide is machined from basically a flat peice of sheet steel, then folded into the desired shape. First, if the goal is to make a heavier slide, it is cheaper to machine a slide of the desired mass because the stamped slide has an even thickness that doesn't allow increased weight. Second, the Sig 220 dates back to the mid-'70s, before CNC was common or inexpensive. The gun you are referring to actually have not folded but "stamped" carbon steel slides and were 100% made in Germany. They are considered to be "true SiG's" by purists like me. This is the same manufacturing technology the Germans used in production of the MP 40, MG 42, MP 44 in WW2 and beyond with the HK series of assault rifles/semi auto . The accuracy order was the 220 (stamped slide), then 226 SS solid slide, then really the 225 was good, but not as accurate as the others. Fit on all were great. The finish, Nitron on the 226 looked and held up the best, the 225 was some kind of oxide blue and looked good.

I recently purchased a 226 9mm made in Germany with stamped slide. I had the choice of that and a US 226 stamped slide and choose the older German one. The tolerances ARE MUCH smaller on the German one. I have enjoyed mine and I have had no problems. I know of NO differences between the two, other than the slides and the pins holding them in. The slide is machined while the plate is stamped, so I loctited the plate to the slide to fill in as many voids as possible. The thread engagement for the screws that hold the optic can only be so much as the plate is like 2mm thick. There are a few aftermarket plates that have better better engagement if needed.
