Unlike today's deep PI's and ZVT which can also go deep, these 2 box transmit/receive (T/R) detectors ignore small objects -- an advantage when the sought after target is large and in a trashy area.
However the "Car Loop Detector-2" Above is Much Better for detecting these animals. Just use this Same, Single Loop of wire on the animal and it works good. "Just some .Some Persons believe two diodes in parallel Doubles the Current Rating. .
As an Alternative to adding or Removing Turns, You can wind the coil with Various Taps, starting at 25 turns, than 26 turns, 27 turns and 28 turns. Than Pick the tap that works Best. OR .
I built my detector using the handle and armrest from an old broken bounty hunter metal detector, a 3/4" piece of thick wall PVC tubing, and a 6x4x2 box from Radio Shack. I mounted the coil . I made the chemelec-PI and lots off different coils. I used these spider-coils for mechanical + capacity-reasons. I also used solid wire and rf-litze with internal 30 or 40 . Can anyone spend a couple of minutes explaining how Gary's Pulse 1 Detector circuit works? It would make this project more interesting. The best forum for DIY metal detectors and coils is geotech1.com. The largest coils you will see for a VLF detector would be on a two box setup. The coils on our detectors .
In this BFO Detector I created a CD4069 Oscillator with a Buffered Output for the Reference Frequency. The Frequency is Tunable with both a Coarse Tune Trimpot and a Fine . I'm looking to make a simple metal detector with an dual coil differential operational mode through a comparator where a material placed in between the opposing magnetic fields .

In Most BFO Detectors, L1 is either an adjustable choke with slug tuning.I built my detector using the handle and armrest from an old broken bounty hunter metal detector, a 3/4" piece of thick wall PVC tubing, and a 6x4x2 box from Radio Shack. I also used solid wire and rf-litze with internal 30 or 40 conductors and I could not find a difference in detecting-range. What I found was that the solid-wired coils where finally heavier
In my metal detector, the search coil is key for detecting metal. It has two parts: the transmit coil and the receive coil. The transmit coil, made of copper wire, creates a magnetic field that reacts with metal objects underground. The coils on our detectors are potted in resin (epoxy?), so the hold their shape, and protect the wires. Probably better to buy a spool of enamel coated magnet wire.

In this BFO Detector I created a CD4069 Oscillator with a Buffered Output for the Reference Frequency. The Frequency is Tunable with both a Coarse Tune Trimpot and a Fine Tune Potentometer. Setting it up First Set the Fine Tune potentiomer to a Middle Position. I'm looking to make a simple metal detector with an dual coil differential operational mode through a comparator where a material placed in between the opposing magnetic fields triggers hysterisis response in relation to the inductance of the object. Any ideas on how to optimize this design? However the "Car Loop Detector-2" Above is Much Better for detecting these animals. Just use this Same, Single Loop of wire on the animal and it works good.
