Here's some of my sample welds on 22 gauge metal. I did 8 test today on flat sheet. I don't know if you can see the penetration on the back side or not. Also i didn't try and grind down the bead's on these. All i wanted to do was to try and not blow through and get max. penetration. I can only post 4 pictures at a time. So I was in a discussion the other day about the thickness of automotive body panels these days. I was under the impression that they were 18 gauge for the most part. Someone else concurred and said that all sheet is presently high strength 22 or 24 gauge. Hi, I'm ready for my first try at bodywork and patch panels. I'm looking at a Lincoln mig-pac 140 or 180. I like the more portable 120 V mig-pac 140 but is this one recommended and powerful enough for bodywork?

Then simply start drilling holes into it for the air flow. If you made the sheet material about 1 inch larger all around you could cut and bend that over as tabs for the rivets to grab through.

flat sheet metal for car body
I bought some patch panel steel from Eastwood, but it is galvanized and I was told by a body guy that paint doesnt like to stick to it. I figured it was fine since Eastwood sold it specifically for use as patch panel material. Am I wrong, or can paint be made to stick if I follow the proper procedures? Thanks
